Hérault is a department in the south of France named after the Hérault river. Hérault is among the original 83 departments formed all through the French Revolution on 4th of March, 1790. It was formed from part of the previous province of Languedoc. Hérault is part of the present region of Languedoc-Roussillon and is simultaneously with the bureaus of Tarn, Aude, Gard, Aveyron, and the Mediterranean Sea (Gulf of Lion) on the south.
