Power proofreading:

• Take some time off-it is unlikely that you’ll catch many errors if you start proofreading right after you finish reading as the content is fresh in your mind. Take a break, maybe a day, and then go back to your paper to scrutinize it.
• Keep references near by-for example dictionary, thesaurus or style book-to certify in case of doubt.
• Instead of giving your paper to a friend to read and comment, make him/her sit with you, read aloud while you follow up with your own copy and mark changes that you’d like to implement.
• Add space to your paper-broaden margin, triple space words and start every sentence on a new line-this will magnify errors and make detection easier.
• Backward reading makes every word stand out, and makes proof reading effective manifolds.
• Once you are done proofreading, start all over again but this time work on specifications-punctuations, verbs, pronouns, formatting, numbers and alignment.
