Why proofread:
Many a times you work really hard for a term paper or an essay, yet end up with an average grade-and then question the worth of your hard work and tireless efforts. But if you, instead, speak to your instructor about it, she/he will be glad to point out your weakness: presentation.
Although your subject matter is of utmost importance, but if it has distracting errors and careless glitches, you cannot get reader’s interest or attention. Therefore, to skip revision before turning your paper in will not earn you a good impression or a decent grade.
Another thing you need to keep in mind is that a hasty review is not enough; you have already spent enough time with the write-up so finding errors would as it is be difficult but if you plan to devote only a fleeting glance to spot errors, better not do that as well for it is useless. You need to slow down and spend some time after you are done writing to effectively recognize mistakes.
Another reason you need to slow down while proof reading is that many errors are made on an unconscious level. You always thought “theif” is how you spell thief, so if you wrote it that way in your paper, it is very likely that you’ll oversee this error unless you slowdown and scrutinize every word.
Lastly, remember that professional proof readers spend days with one essay to make sure it is perfect when submitted or printed; so you can never proof read enough times but do it till at least you are satisfied.
