Analyzing Content as a Research Method

A method of research that is used to conclude the presence of certain concepts or words within texts or pieces of texts, content analysis is analyzing and enumerating the existence, meanings, and relationships of such concepts and words and then making conjectures about the messages within the texts, the writer(s), the audience, and even the culture and time of which these are a part of.

Types of Content Analysis:
There are two general types of content analysis. They are:

1. Conceptual Analysis
2. Relational Analysis

Conceptual Analysis:
The method of establishing the presence and frequency of concepts in a text can be called conceptual analysis. The way to do this type of analysis is to look for the words that match your hunch about the writer’s written works.

Relational Analysis:
In contrast to conceptual analysis, relational analysis is a one step further method of establishing the presence and frequency of concepts in a text. In this type of research method, you are to examine the relationships among concepts in a text.
